Alipay AI Payments Hit 300M: World's First Agent Payment Infrastructure Arrives, TokenPay + AI Wallet Explained

📖 Glossary

AI Box (also known as Agent Computer / Agent PC), is a dedicated local hardware device that runs AI Agents. Pre-installed with an AI agent management system, plug-and-play, running 24/7. Users can remotely command AI to work via Discord, Slack, Telegram, WhatsApp, and more.

Abstract: On May 26, Alipay held its AI Payment Ecosystem Conference in Hangzhou, announcing "AI Pay" completed 300M AI agent payment transactions, becoming the world's first large-scale commercial AI-native payment infrastructure. Also launching the world's first Token Pay service and AI Wallet, supporting 95% of common agent frameworks. AI agents can finally pay on their own.

On May 26, Alipay held its AI Payment Ecosystem Conference in Hangzhou.

The announcement: Alipay's "AI Pay" completed 300 million AI agent payment transactions. Supporting 95% of common agent frameworks — including Qwen, OpenClaw, Hermes Agent, and more.

What does this mean? AI agents can finally pay on their own.

What Is AI Pay

Previously, "AI Pay" meant: you open Alipay, scan a QR code, pay. AI was just a "QR code recognition tool" — you were still paying; AI just helped identify.

Now, "AI Pay" means: you tell your AI agent "buy my train ticket for tomorrow," and the AI pays on your behalf. No opening Alipay, no scanning codes, no entering passwords — the agent uses your authorization to complete payment.

Sounds risky. Is it safe?

Alipay's solution: AI Pay requires your advance authorization with spending limits. Each payment, AI tells you "I'm about to pay ¥XX for XX," you confirm before execution. For small payments (coffee, ride-hailing), set auto-confirm. For large payments (flights, computers), human confirmation required.

What 300M Means

300 million isn't a small number. Alipay is the world's first payment platform with both transaction count and user count exceeding 100 million. AI Pay hitting 300M shows AI payments evolved from "tech demo" to "real usage."

Who's using AI Pay? Mainly two groups:

Developer testing. Many developers testing whether their agents can call payments — completing the "order → pay → confirm" loop. These test transactions accumulated to 300M.

Early adopters. Using AI assistants to order food delivery, call rides, recharge phone credit — high-frequency, small payments where users are comfortable letting AI pay.

300M scale signals all three parties — payment platform, developers, users — moving in this direction. AI agent's "last mile" — payment — is being solved.

What Is Token Pay

Token Pay is another major launch: the world's first Token Pay service for individual users.

"Token" in AI context means billing units — conversations consume tokens, billed per token. Token Pay's "Token" is different — payment tokenization technology's token, a random string replacing real account information.

Analogy: using a credit card online, you don't want the merchant having your real card number. Token Pay generates a "virtual card number" (Token) for the merchant — usable only for that one transaction, useless elsewhere. Even if the Token is leaked, no other transactions are possible.

Alipay applies this to AI payment: when an agent calls payment, it doesn't use real payment info — just the Token. Even if the agent is compromised, attackers get only a Token, not real account data.

What Is AI Wallet

AI Wallet is Alipay's AI-native wallet for individual users, launched simultaneously on May 26.

Difference from regular Alipay Wallet: AI Wallet adds "agent task management" — before, during, and after payment, you see exactly what the AI agent is doing. Post-payment, bills label "this was bought by AI" so you can check or reverse anytime.

Example: you tell AI "book tomorrow's flight to Shanghai." AI Wallet shows: searching flights → found lowest price → preparing to pay ¥XX → awaiting confirmation. Every step visible — no "money mysteriously deducted."

AI Wallet also offers "smart spending analysis" — AI organizes your bills, telling you "¥XX on transport this month, ¥XX on food," even suggesting "you often use this platform — is a membership worth it?"

Supporting 95% of Common Agent Frameworks

Alipay announced AI Pay supports 95% of common agent frameworks. Specific list includes: Qwen, JVS Claw, Claude Code, Hermes Agent, and more.

Meaning: if you're using these agent frameworks, you can directly integrate Alipay AI Pay — no need to develop your own payment interface. Alipay provides standard integration docs and SDK.

For Kaihe AIBOX users: Hermes Agent on A1 can directly call Alipay AI Pay. Telling A1 "book my train ticket to Shanghai for tomorrow" — Hermes Agent completes search, price comparison, payment automatically. You only confirm payment in AI Wallet.

Why This Matters

AI agent commercialization had one bottleneck: can do many things, but couldn't pay.

Agent finds the cheapest flight for you, but you still have to open an app and pay — the workflow breaks here. Agent wants to subscribe to a service, but can't pay — automation stops.

AI Pay solves this. Agents complete the full loop from "understand requirement" to "execute task" to "complete payment." This is what a real "working" AI agent looks like — not just recommending, but executing to completion.

A Complete Scenario

You tell Kaihe AIBOX via WeChat: "Book tomorrow morning high-speed rail to Shanghai, second class, latest 10 AM departure."

A1's Hermes Agent: 1. Understands: tomorrow, Shanghai, high-speed rail, second class, before 10 AM 2. Searches 12306: finds 3 matching trains 3. Compares prices: selects cheapest 4. Calls Alipay AI Pay: generates order, awaits your confirmation 5. You see order in AI Wallet, tap confirm 6. Payment completes, e-ticket sent to your 12306 account

Total: one sentence from you, one payment confirmation. Previously: open 12306 app → search trains → select seat → pay → confirm — at least 5 minutes. Now: 30 seconds.
