Four Core Changes
1. Persistent Two-Way Conversation
Previous Siri: You say one thing, it responds, conversation over. Next sentence, it forgot the previous one.
New Siri: You can have continuous conversations. "Book me a restaurant" → "Italian" → "Not too expensive" → "8 PM" → "Send invitations to Zhang and Li."
It remembers context. No need to repeat information every time.
2. Cross-App Multi-Step Tasks
Previous Siri only did single-step operations: "Remind me about the meeting at 3."
New Siri can execute multi-step tasks across apps: "Find flights to Shanghai next Tuesday, pick the cheapest, book it, add it to my calendar, and email the team."
Flight app searches → Calendar app adds event → Email app sends notification. Three steps, one instruction.
This is what "task collaborator" means — not you telling it each step, but you stating the desired outcome, and it breaks down and executes the steps itself.
3. Personal Context Understanding
Siri now understands your personal context. It knows your frequent contacts, regular locations, calendar arrangements.
You say "Book that restaurant from last time" — it knows which one. You say "Remind me to leave" — it knows when and where you need to be, calculates travel time, and reminds you in advance.
Apple emphasizes that personal data is processed on-device, protected through differential privacy.
4. On-Screen Awareness
Siri can now "see" what's on your screen. Looking at an email, you say "Reply that I agree" — Siri directly understands who "he" is and what "agree" means, no extra explanation needed.
Most direct use case: encounter any problem in any app, just ask Siri. It knows what you're looking at.
Local Agents: An Alternative Path Beyond Siri
Siri AI's evolution direction is clear: from "follow commands" to "understand you and get things done."
