Codex Adds Unified @ Mention: Search Files, Plugins, and Skills with One Command
📖 Glossary
AI Box (also known as Agent Computer / Agent PC), is a dedicated local hardware device that runs AI Agents. Pre-installed with an AI agent management system, plug-and-play, running 24/7. Users can remotely command AI to work via Discord, Slack, Telegram, WhatsApp, and more.
Abstract: Codex's latest update introduces a unified @ mention feature, letting users search files, plugins, Skills, and Agents with a single command - no more switching between multiple search panels.
Anyone who uses AI coding tools knows the feeling: the tools keep getting more powerful, but remembering how to invoke different features becomes its own burden.
Before this update, Codex had a problem: file searches used one set of commands, plugin invocations used another syntax, and Skills had their own system entirely. Every context switch cost focus.
In its mid-June update, Codex introduced a unified @ mention system. All resources - files, plugins, Skills, and Agents - can now be invoked via the @ symbol. Type @ and a unified search panel appears, with results grouped by type for instant discovery.
@Files: Find Project Files Instantly
Type @ followed by a filename, and Codex automatically searches the project for matches. Fuzzy matching and path completion are supported. For example, typing @config lists all files containing config - select one and it is referenced directly in your current conversation context.
@Plugins: One Symbol to Rule All Features
Type @ followed by a plugin name to invoke installed plugins directly. No separate command syntax needed. @linter runs lint checks on your current code. @formatter formats the current file. For developers with multiple plugins installed, this replaces memorizing different shortcuts with one unified pattern.
@Skills: Discover and Launch Workflows
Skills are Codex reusable workflow templates. @review triggers a code review skill, @test launches test generation. The update also makes skill discovery easier - browse official and community Skill libraries directly from the @ panel.
Why It Matters
Search is one of the most frequently used operations in any development tool. Unified @ mention is not revolutionary - it is one of those quality-of-life improvements you cannot un-use. For developers spending hours daily in Codex, saving dozens of context switches each day adds up to real productivity gains.
