DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash-1017 Is Out: Wish-Style Coding and an In-House Search API

Published on: 2026-10-17

📖 Glossary

AI Box (also known as Agent Computer / Agent PC), is a dedicated local hardware device that runs AI Agents. Pre-installed with an AI agent management system, plug-and-play, running 24/7. Users can remotely command AI to work via Discord, Slack, Telegram, WhatsApp, and more.

Summary: On October 17, DeepSeek upgraded V4.1 Flash to V4.1-Flash-1017 across its web app, mobile app and API, with the same endpoint and the same price. This release ships wish-style coding and opens DeepSeek's in-house search API. For KAIHE AIBOX users it means the always-on agent computer on the desk just got a smarter brain.

1. What actually changed

This is a version update to V4.1 Flash; the previous build shipped on September 10. Three facts matter: all three surfaces updated at once; the API is unchanged, so the model name is still deepseek-flash and the endpoint, authentication and pricing all stay as they were; and legacy model IDs are still accepted and routed to the new model automatically. On your side, nothing has to change.

2. A Pareto improvement in performance-to-cost

DeepSeek calls it a Pareto improvement in performance-to-cost: nothing is traded off against anything else, everything simply gets better.

Benchmark Previous build V4.1-Flash-1017
HLE (no tools) 36.8 42.6
Terminal-Bench 4.0 31.2 42.3
ProgramBench 20.3 29.1
DeepSWE v1.1 74.2 77.0
Chartography (with tools) 78.9 83.0

The sentence that actually affects your bill is easy to miss: this version shortens both task runtime and output length. Higher scores, faster execution, shorter answers — the same job simply costs less.

3. From writing code to wish-style coding

The headline capability comes from reinforcement learning with self-feedback, and it targets projects built from zero in game development and 3D modelling. DeepSeek's demos include a 3D model of the Forbidden City, a browser-based racing game, and a Portal 2 remake in the Godot engine.

What they share is extremely few prompts, extremely few references and extremely short interaction rounds. The barrier has moved from knowing how to write code to knowing how to describe what you want.

4. The in-house search API goes public

DeepSeek has exposed its own search engine as an API with two endpoints, Search and Fetch: an index in the hundreds of billions of pages, multilingual and real-time, priced at ¥5 per 1,000 calls, roughly US$0.70. One timeline matters — calls made through server-side tools inside DeepSeek Harness, Claude Code and Codex are currently free, and billing starts at 00:00 Beijing time on November 1, 2026. The weights are open this time too, on HuggingFace and ModelScope.

5. Stronger models do not solve the real problem

Model releases now outpace any individual's ability to keep up. A build from September was superseded by its own successor five weeks later. Prices keep falling and weights are downloadable. Models are turning from a scarce resource into public infrastructure.

What is genuinely scarce is having a machine that keeps putting those models to work. KAIHE AIBOX is a dedicated agent computer: it runs 7x24 on its own without taking over your laptop; you set tasks by day and it executes them at night, and since DeepSeek's API uses peak and off-peak pricing where off-peak costs half, your jobs automatically capture that half price; its agents dispatch the right model and reasoning level per task, so the longer you use it the less it costs; the hardware and the agent system are a one-time purchase with no software subscription; and WhatsApp, Slack and Teams already serve as the channels you talk to it through.

Who runs the task You sit there and trigger it The device runs it 7x24
Off-peak pricing You stay up to catch it Jobs are scheduled overnight
Cost structure Pay per use, forever One-time purchase, no subscription

It covers eight categories of work: content creation; Excel and data processing; email and local documents; schedule management; information retrieval; scheduled automation; knowledge and memory management; and coding assistance.

6. The bottom line

Models will keep iterating, and that part is out of your hands. What is in your hands is whether you have a stable foundation underneath that can catch every improvement the moment it lands.
