Hermes Agent v0.17.0 Released: Codename "Reach Release" — From CLI Tool to Cross-Platform AI Assistant

📖 Glossary

AI Box (also known as Agent Computer / Agent PC), is a dedicated local hardware device that runs AI Agents. Pre-installed with an AI agent management system, plug-and-play, running 24/7. Users can remotely command AI to work via Discord, Slack, Telegram, WhatsApp, and more.

Abstract: Hermes Agent v0.17.0 (codename "Reach Release"), released June 19, evolves from a pure command-line tool into a cross-platform AI assistant that lives inside WeChat, Feishu, and Discord. Key updates: native multi-channel access, language-aware title generation, desktop slash command fixes, and enhanced content safety. Kaihe AIBOX ships with Hermes pre-installed and auto-updates.

What Is Hermes Agent

Quick background for those still figuring out the ecosystem.

OpenClaw is the local AI Agent gateway — it handles the plumbing: connecting AI models, routing API calls, managing permissions. Hermes Agent runs on top of OpenClaw and does the actual work — writing emails, searching data, controlling software.

Think of OpenClaw as the operating system and Hermes as the browser. The OS manages hardware resources; the browser handles what you actually do — what pages you visit, what apps you use.

The Problem Before v0.17.0

Previous versions of Hermes Agent were CLI-first. Everything went through the terminal.

Want to write a proposal? Open the terminal, type a command, wait for the result. Command line is fine — power users love it. But for most people, it's a barrier.

People talk to AI the same way they talk to people — in a chat window, not a terminal.

Three Things Changed This Time

1. The Agent Lives in Your Chat Now

This is the big one. Hermes Agent is no longer CLI-only — it now lives inside WeChat, Feishu, and Discord, talking to you directly in the chat.

Need to look up data, write a report, organize emails? Open WeChat and send a message. The Agent responds automatically and sends results back to the chat. No switching apps, no terminal.

For Kaihe AIBOX users it's even simpler — the Agent connects to WeChat through OpenClaw's Agent-Reach interface. Plug in, connect, and it's all set up.

2. Titles Now Match Your Language

There was an annoying bug: write a Chinese document, get an English title. Write in English, get a Chinese title. 0.17.0 fixes this — the Agent auto-detects the content language and generates titles accordingly. Chinese content gets Chinese titles. English content gets English titles. No configuration needed.

3. Desktop Bugs Fixed

Slash commands sometimes didn't reach the right Agent instance — fixed. Content safety guardrails also got tightened, with stricter self-checking on generated outputs.

How to Use It

Kaihe AIBOX ships with Hermes Agent pre-installed. Versions auto-update through OpenClaw. Restart after 0.17.0 lands and you're good to go.

Find your Kaihe AIBOX contact in WeChat (connected through OpenClaw's Agent-Reach), send a message. The Agent executes and pushes results back.

Already connected to WeChat? It works automatically. Haven't connected yet? Open the OpenClaw dashboard, scan a QR code, bind your WeChat. One step, done.

Why This Matters

The faster Hermes ships updates, the more capable Kaihe AIBOX becomes.

Hermes is open-source. The community and the Kaihe team both contribute code. OpenClaw handles the underlying API routing and model management. When you buy a Kaihe AIBOX, you're not buying a piece of hardware — you're buying a continuously updated software ecosystem.

Auto-updates. New features without any action on your part. Your device gets smarter over time.
